Arson case a reminder of dangers faced by Police both on and off duty - Beattie

Doug Beattie MC, Ulster Unionist Assembly candidate for Upper Bann, has said that the news of arrests in a case involving arson attacks on the homes of serving police officers is a reminder of the very real dangers faced by officers.

Doug Beattie MC said:

"The public will be shocked to learn that the homes and vehicles of Police officers in Gilford, Banbridge and Portadown were subject to arson attacks between April and July last year.

“Obviously legal proceedings are ongoing, so I will not comment on the details of the case,  save to say that it is a reminder of the very real  risks faced by the PSNI both on and off duty, and that these risks are shared by the families of officers.

“All too often policing involves officers placing themselves in harm’s way in order to protect society from criminal elements. We all owe the Police a debt of gratitude for the difficult job that they do and we should never forget that.”
