Privilege to attend rededication of Jewish graves in Belfast City Cemetery – Steve Aiken OBE

Steve Aiken OBE, Ulster Unionist Assembly candidate for South Antrim, has welcomed the rededication of Jewish graves in Belfast City Cemetery today following an act of desecration last year.

Steve Aiken said:

“It was a privilege to attend the rededication service at the Jewish Section of Belfast City Cemetery. It was a very moving ceremony and I was glad to be able to attend with other Ulster Unionist Party representatives. It was good to see so many people come together from all sections of our community, from across Belfast and wider afield, to stand together with Northern Ireland`s small Jewish community.

“The desecration of the graves last year was a sickening act. The ongoing abuse of our Jewish community is truly appalling and we should be outspoken in our outright condemnation of such acts. Anti-Semitism in all its forms is repugnant. The Jewish community have a long and distinguished history in Northern Ireland and are part of the very fabric of our society. We should all be very proud of the role they have played and do all we can to ensure that they are able to live free from harassment from fascists and bigots.”
