Parliament united against terrorism – Elliott

Ulster Unionist MP Tom Elliott has said Parliament is united against terrorism in the aftermath of Wednesday’s terrorist attack in Westminster.

Mr. Elliott was commenting after all parties in the House of Commons came together to pay tribute to those killed and injured yesterday, and to the efforts of security and emergency services.

The Fermanagh & South Tyrone MP said:

“There was a sombre yet defiant mood in Parliament today as MPs and staff were determined not to let terrorism deter them from carrying out their duties.

“Tributes were paid to the 3 victims who were murdered including PC Keith Palmer, who tragically died in the line of duty, and the other innocent victims, many of whom who are still seriously injured in hospital.

“The Police, emergency services, and members of the public were commended for their swift action, including Tobias Ellwood MP, who bravely tried to keep PC Palmer alive.

“The Prime Minister spoke for the whole country when she said that this was an attempt to silence our democracy and that we will not waver in the face of terrorism.

“In my own comments I asked the Prime Minister to ensure support for the victims and their families including the Officer whose role it was to stop the terrorist, and who done so successfully.

“Parliament spoke with one voice, as all parties and MPs united against terrorism.

“The message was loud and clear, we will not let an attack such as this affect our democracy, our British values and our way of life.”
