Statement from the Ulster Unionist Party Group on Belfast City Council regarding the bonfire at Ravenscroft Avenue in East Belfast

We the Ulster Unionist Party Group on Belfast City Council are appealing to the community to support our efforts to find a sustainable solution to the situation regarding the bonfire at Ravenscroft Avenue in East Belfast. We are always willing to engage with those involved with the bonfires to try and get a satisfactory solution.

We are calling on those involved in the siting of this bonfire to remove the pallets and other material from the public car park site as soon as possible.

We are not opposed to bonfires, but they must be built in an area which is well away from properties, otherwise they will create problems for many people and will require the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service to be on hand along with the police and council officials.
