Dobson condemns attacks on Police in Lurgan

Ulster Unionist MLA Jo-Anne Dobson has condemned the incidents in Lurgan in the early hours of Sunday morning in which a Police officer was stabbed and seriously injured and other officers came under attack from a crowd throwing petrol bombs and bricks.

Mrs Dobson, who represents Upper Bann, said;

“I was shocked to learn that a Police officer was slashed and seriously injured whilst answering an emergency call in the Kilwilkie area of Lurgan in the early hours of Sunday morning.

I understand the Police were responding to a domestic incident in which there were fears for the safety of very young children. This incident illustrates the dangers faced by the Police and the bravery they display in carrying out their duties as they seek to protect and serve the entire community, 24 hours a day.

My thoughts are very much with the injured officer and I trust that he will make a swift and full recovery.

The fact that officers attending the scene were attacked with petrol bombs and bricks is an absolute disgrace. he people of Kilwilkie are as entitled to the protection and assistance of the Police as every other community in Upper Bann and throughout Northern Ireland and the actions of those who attacked the Police must be condemned utterly.  ”
