Hussey calls for firm action against petrol bombers

Ulster Unionist Policing Board Member Ross Hussey MLA has commended the actions of Police Officers who attended the incidents in Lurgan in the early hours of Sunday morning to assist in a domestic incident and remove two young children from harm’s way.

Mr Hussey said;

“The fact that two police officers were attacked and that one sustained serious injury indicates the professionalism of the PSNI and the courage of the officers who went to the scene and without regard for their own safety, took action to protect others. I pass on my sincere best wishes to all the officers involved in the incident and to their families.

There is of course also the sinister element that exists within Kilwikie, making live a misery for those who simply wish to live in peace and enjoy the protection of the Police. This element deliberately set out to injure police officers and chose to attack the police with bricks bottles and petrol bombs.

Petrol bombs are not something that you happen to have casually lying around the house and those individuals who chose to make these potentially lethal devices need to be hunted down and placed behind bars. I accept that they are a minority but one petrol bomb could easily have left us with more seriously injured or perhaps murdered police officers.

Those that are prepared to make petrol bombs and use them as weapons must now face the potential of life imprisonment such punishment certainly fits the crime and perhaps the Justice Minister should consider such legislation in the very near future.”
