Lord Empey Bill to support victims of Gaddafi sponsored IRA terror to have Second Reading

Lord Empey’s Asset Freezing (Compensation) Bill will have its Second Reading tomorrow (27 October 2017) in the House of Lords.   The Bill seeks to use Gaddafi assets frozen in the United Kingdom to compensate victims of Libyan sponsored terror.

Lord Empey said:

“Tomorrow’s reading will be another important step on the road to justice for victims of Gaddafi sponsored IRA terror.  The Parliamentary Support Group had a positive meeting with the Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson MP, recently.  I am eager to hear if this will translate into any change of position from the Government.

“The deadlock around this issue must be broken.  Other governments have secured compensation for victims, it is disgraceful that UK victims have received nothing.”
