Barton - Why has Education Authority failed for a second time to appoint a Chief Executive?

Ulster Unionist Education spokesperson Rosemary Barton has queried why there has been another failed attempt to appoint someone to the top post in the Education Authority.

Mrs Barton said:

“This is the second time that there has been a failure to appoint a new Chief Executive to the Northern Ireland Education Authority. While there may be good reasons for the non-appointments, it would be useful to establish more of the facts around these failures.

“The current Chief Executive Gavin Boyd has been in place since the establishment of the Education Authority on 31st March 2015. Prior to that he was the interim Chief Executive. It was anticipated that a replacement would be found in 2016, however there was a failure to appoint then and now the same thing has happened again.

“The organisation had been tasked with delivering significant savings both in terms of financial savings and reduction in staff numbers. I will seek an update on the delivery of these savings plans and also the reasons why an appointment to the position of Chief Executive has not yet been made.”
