Blatant attempt to undermine Mid Ulster Winter Warm Up Scheme disgraceful - Cllr Kenneth Reid

Ulster Unionist Party Councillor for Torrent DEA in Mid Ulster, Kenneth Reid has slammed the actions of another political party in Mid Ulster which undermine the Winter Warm Up Packs scheme which is available through the Policing and Community Safety Partnerships (PCSP) and Mid Ulster District Council.

Councillor Reid stated:

“The warm up packs are offered by the PCSP and Mid Ulster Council in conjunction with the Health Service. They provide vital items to help keep people warm during the colder temperatures, for example a blanket and a pair of socks. The packs are available to over 65’s who do not have sufficient heating arrangements at present. As the Chairman of the PCSP in Mid Ulster, I am extremely proud of this scheme as it helps safeguard elderly residents across the community.

“I am shocked therefore to learn that another political party has been taking advantage of this scheme for potential political gain. Flyers were distributed across various parts of Mid Ulster, including churches, highlighting the packs and what is included in them, however the flyer states that anyone interested should visit this party’s constituency office for more information, while at the same time having a photograph of the political representative and his party logo.

“This disgraceful action completely undermines the PCSP and Mid Ulster District Council. Since learning of this, I have raised this matter with the Council and have asked for an investigation. A paper will be brought forward at the next meeting of the Environment Committee to examine the impact of these actions.”
