Community shocked and appalled by shooting in Garvagh - Cllr Richard Holmes

Richard Holmes, local resident and UUP Councillor for Garvagh, has condemned the shooting of a 46 year old male in the leg in Garvagh Main Street on Saturday night.

Speaking today, Councillor Holmes said:

“I totally condemn this shooting and call on anyone with information to bring it to the Police without hesitation. Guns and shootings should be a thing of the past and the local community in Garvagh stand against such things.

“The community are shocked and appalled by this incident and only grateful that we are not mourning the death of this man.The actions of the few are not reflective of the community in Garvagh, which is a place where the community are law abiding.

“The thoughts of the local community are with this 46-year-old male in his recovery.

“I would like to thank the emergency services for their prompt actions, especially the Police in ensuring the safety of the public at large following this incident.

“Whatever the circumstances of this incident people should respect the law and not become the judge, jury and executioner.”
