Ulster Unionists continue engagement with The Rainbow Project

Ulster Unionist Belfast City Councillors met with The Rainbow Project in Belfast on Friday. Councillor Sonia Copeland, Councillor Jeff Dudgeon MBE, Councillor Peter Johnston and Alderman Chris McGimpsey attended the meeting along with Ulster Unionist MLA, Doug Beattie MC.

Following the meeting, Alderman Chris McGimpsey said:

“Our meeting with The Rainbow Project provided another opportunity to have a useful exchange of views. What we encountered was a group which carries out an important role and wants to reach out across Belfast and Northern Ireland to inform and support people both inside the LGBT community and beyond.

“However, this is being hindered by a lack of political direction due to the fact that there is no functioning Stormont Executive and Assembly.

“We were also advised of The Rainbow Project`s liaison arrangements with the PSNI on hate crime incidents and were greatly encouraged by this and similar work on policing issues.

“We look forward to continuing our engagement with The Rainbow Project and other groups across the Belfast City Council area.”
