Lord Empey appointed to Westminster Select Committee to consider the effectiveness of the 2010 Bribery Act

Ulster Unionist peer, Lord Empey of Shandon, has been appointed to a House of Lords Select Committee to consider how the Bribery Act of 2010 has operated. The Committee will be chaired by Lord Saville of Newdigate.

Lord Empey said:

“The Committee will examine how the 2010 Bribery Act has operated since its inception. It will be chaired by Lord Saville and will examine how effective the Bribery Act has been in preventing corruption and what protection it has given businesses from nefarious influences on both a national and international level.

“It is absolutely vital that all forms of corruption are tackled in all walks of life and I look forward to playing a full role on the Committee as it considers if the Bribery Act has succeeded in reducing corruption and if further law changes are needed to sharpen its teeth.

“As our work gets underway, we will seek to hear from as many people and organisations as possible.”
