Wilson welcomes support from Mid Ulster Council for his motion to waive Burial Fees for Children

Cookstown Ulster Unionist Councillor Trevor Wilson has welcomed the cross party support his motion to waive burial fees for children under the age of eighteen years, received in Mid Ulster Council last night (Thursday).

Councillor Wilson said:

“This motion was inspired by my party colleague in Armagh, Banbridge & Craigavon Council, Councillor Julie Flaherty.

“Five years ago she lost her son Jake and she raised this issue which has been taken up by the Ulster Unionist Party in council chambers across Northern Ireland.

“Last night all parties spoke in favour of my motion to waive burial fees for anyone under 18 in the Mid Ulster Council area, and I was happy to accept an amendment whereby Council will write to all local churches asking them to do the same.

“This is a measure which I believe will be welcomed throughout the community and bring a degree of comfort to families experiencing very difficult and trying times.”
