Focus of Brexit negotiations must be on finding sensible, pragmatic solutions - Swann

Ulster Unionist Party Leader Robin Swann MLA has said that to fully serve the needs and best interests of the people of Northern Ireland, the focus of Brexit negotiations must be on securing a deal.

Robin Swann MLA said:

“It is clear that it is in the interests of both the United Kingdom and the European Union that sensible, pragmatic solutions are found before we leave.

“We must not lose sight of the fact that the backstop only applies if other arrangements cannot be agreed.  The intensity of focus on the backstop makes it look like the only show in town.   However, to fully serve the needs and best interests of the people of Northern Ireland, focus must be on securing a deal.

“It is welcome that the UK Government is putting forward solutions that do not seek to divide Northern Ireland from the rest of the Nation.  I hope that European Union negotiators will give this proposal full consideration and not simply reject it on sight.”
