Whiterock parade decision is rewarding intransigence

Ulster Unionist Party representative for the Greater Shankill, David Anderson, has condemned the latest decision by the Parades Commission to prohibit the Whiterock Parade from passing through the Workman Avenue gates.

Mr Anderson said:

“The Parades Commission has once again shown its true colours. It seems to be no matter what the Orange Order does, there is no pleasing the Parades Commission. The Orange Order has abided by all the stipulations imposed by the Parades Commission yet it seems that the views and protestations of republicans are given more weight than that of the Orange Order. The Parades Commission should not be rewarding intransigence.

“I know that people in the area are absolutely exasperated and totally disgusted with this Parades Commission decision. They throw out diktats with little explanation and no rationale - it looks like they have the back of republican protestors. This is yet another reprehensible decision. Year after year the Parades Commission has shown that it is completely out of touch. The sooner that it is gone the better.”
