The Ulster Unionist Party’s Policing Spokesperson, Alan Chambers MLA, has congratulated the PSNI’s Assistant Chief Constable Drew Harris on his appointment as the new Garda Commissioner.
Alan Chambers MLA said:
“The appointment of Drew Harris as head of the Garda is a tremendous personal achievement and on behalf of the Ulster Unionist Party I wish him every success in the role.
“His appointment to this prestigious position obviously reflects well on the calibre of the command structure of the PSNI, but is also a tribute to the Royal Ulster Constabulary GC, the force which Drew Harris joined in 1983.
"The RUC has been much maligned by those who wish to re-write history, but as an ex-RUC Reservist myself, I take a degree of satisfaction that a former RUC man is now the top police officer in the Republic. I am confident that he will be a success because his training will have been second to none and I wish him every success in his new role.”
