Northern Ireland cannot afford to wait until BREXIT and the RHI Inquiry are over before starting meaningful talks on restoring devolution – Swann

The Ulster Unionist Party Leader, Robin Swann MLA, has stated that Northern Ireland cannot afford to wait until BREXIT and the RHI Inquiry are over before starting meaningful talks on restoring devolution.

Ulster Unionist Party Leader, Robin Swann MLA said:

“Northern Ireland politicians need to be doing more than standing behind placards expressing outrage at the current mess we find ourselves in. Sinn Fein blame the DUP, the DUP blame Sinn Fein. Instead of political stunts, the parties should be around a talks table getting down to brass tacks and attempting to get a reformed, functioning Assembly and Executive back in place.

“This is where the Secretary of State should be stepping in. So far she has been pulled in two directions, inextricably tied to the Conservative-DUP partnership over which she has no control and on the other hand hesitant to move for fear of offending Sinn Fein. Karen Bradley needs to act now. Northern Ireland cannot afford to wait until BREXIT and the RHI Inquiry are over before starting meaningful talks on restoring devolution.”
