Wilson condemns Cookstown Health Centre vandalism

Cookstown Ulster Unionist Councillor Trevor Wilson has condemned the serious vandalism at a Cookstown Health Centre which occurred at the weekend.

Councillor Wilson said:

“I totally condemn this deliberate act of mindless vandalism which was no minor incident but a very serious and determined attempt to cause as much damage as possible to a vital community facility. Whoever broke in removed the sealed lid of the roof space water storage tank, destroyed the ballcock mechanism and diverted the external overflow pipe to ensure that as water overflowed, it would do so inside the building.

“Mercifully this was discovered on Saturday morning, because if this had gone on undisturbed until Monday, then the damage done to the building itself, associated services and medical files etc, would have been horrendous.

“As it is, the surgery is back up and running today, but that is no thanks to the idiots responsible.

“For any individual or group of people to carry out such an attack makes no sense at all. It is nothing less than an attack on the entire Cookstown community and I appeal to anyone who has any information to contact the police immediately.”
