Robin Swann calls on Westminster Public Accounts Committee to investigate SIF

Ulster Unionist Party Leader, Robin Swann MLA, has written to the Chair of the Westminster Public Accounts Committee, Meg Hillier MP, to ask that she instigates an investigation into the Social Investment Fund in light of the Northern Ireland Audit Office report into the scheme.

Robin Swann MLA said:

“The Northern Ireland Audit Office report is deeply concerning and vindicates those who have voiced concerns about the scheme from the outset.  This report, sitting alongside the evidence given at the RHI Inquiry, paints a disgraceful picture of systemic failures in the DUP/Sinn Fein Executive.

“I have written to the Chair of the Westminster Public Accounts Committee, Meg Hillier MP, to bring the report and its findings to her attention.   As the last Chair of the Northern Ireland Public Accounts Committee before the collapse of devolution, I am confident that the Committee would be carrying out an urgent investigation.

“I have asked Meg Hillier MP to instigate an inquiry into the Social Investment Fund as part of her Committee’s work schedule.  Just because there is political stalemate in Northern Ireland does not mean there should be any less accountability and scrutiny when it comes to how public money is being spent.”
