Swann hits out at latest outburst from Sinn Fein MEP

Ulster Unionist Leader Robin Swann MLA has hit out at what he has called the latest outburst from Sinn Fein MEP Martina Anderson after she repeated in the European Parliament the James Connolly quote that ‘the British Government has no right in Ireland, never had any right in Ireland, and never can have any right in Ireland.’

Robin Swann said:

“Once again we have the former so-called unionist outreach officer for Sinn Fein demonstrating exactly why she was never fit to even pretend to hold such a title. It’s just one of the many examples of how Sinn Fein representatives constantly demand respect but appear incapable and unwilling to show it themselves.

“The IRA fought a terrorist campaign for 30 years in a failed attempt to break the union between Northern Ireland and Great Britain. For years they tried to murder and maim their way to a united Ireland and now 20 years after the Belfast Agreement their mask still occasionally slips and it is clear for all to see that they haven't moved on at all from the bigoted rhetoric of Brits Out.

“This latest rant is not the first time Martina Anderson has embarrassed herself and the people of Northern Ireland. In early 2017 during a rant to an empty Strasbourg Chamber about the Northern Ireland border she told the Prime Minister to ‘stick it where the sun don’t shine.’

“These outbursts serve to demonstrate precisely just how insincere Sinn Fein representatives – including Mary Lou McDonald – are being during the Brexit discussions when they claim to be standing loyally by the principles of the Belfast Agreement.”
