Secretary of State must test how serious Sinn Fein are about restoring devolution – Swann

Ulster Unionist Party Leader, Robin Swann MLA, has said that the Secretary of State, Rt. Hon. Karen Bradley MP, must get a grip of things and bring an end to the political stalemate.

Robin Swann MLA said:

“It has now been over a week since the Secretary of State called five parties around the table to discuss starting a fresh talks process to restore devolution.  As it stands we appear no closer to the process starting, let alone the restoration of devolution.

“Four of those five parties recognised that there is a need to get a process up and running to see if any progress can be made.  However, it seems to me that Sinn Fein have checked out by putting up hurdles to a talks process even taking place.

“The Secretary of State needs to get a grip of things.  Is she really content to allow Sinn Fein to continue to veto talks and hold the entire country to ransom?  She needs to be testing Sinn Fein on how serious they are about restoring devolution.”
