Ulster Unionists call on Secretary of State to support our town centres

Ulster Unionist Councillor Trevor Wilson, has called on the Secretary of State to take action to help Northern Ireland’s under pressure town centres by releasing £20m of funding that the Chancellor announced in the last Budget.

Councillor Trevor Wilson said:

“Many town centres are struggling and Northern Ireland has the highest shop vacancy rates in the UK.

“The Ulster Unionist Party wants to see vibrant town centres across Northern Ireland and we are particularly interested in the Future High Streets Fund which was announced in the Chancellor’s last Budget and provides Northern Ireland with £20m from Barnett Consequentials to regenerate town centres.

“I urge the Secretary of State to ensure that this funding is made available and rolled out to provide some much needed relief for those who are doing their utmost to keep our town centres as welcoming and vibrant places.”
