Joint authority is unacceptable to any shade of unionism – Aiken

Ulster Unionist Party Chief Whip, Steve Aiken OBE MLA, has responded to the Alliance Party Deputy Leader`s calls for ‘some form of Irish dimension’ in Northern Ireland by making clear that joint authority is unacceptable to any shade of unionism.

Steve Aiken OBE MLA said:

“In the increasingly febrile atmosphere it is regrettable that Alliance feels that the only solution to the Prime Minister`s ill-thought out proposals is for ‘some form of Irish dimension’. Joint authority is unacceptable to any shade of unionism.

“It has long been obvious that Alliance has been lukewarm on the Union but Dr Farry’s response is disregarding the Belfast Agreement. Involving Dublin smacks of undermining the whole principle of consent. We are used to hyperbole from Sinn Fein on the issue of Brexit, but it seems Alliance is intent on even outdoing them.”
