Ulster Unionist leader, Robin Swann MLA, has condemned the murder of journalist Lyra McKee.
Mr Swann said:
“I was absolutely shocked and appalled to hear of the murder of journalist Lyra McKee. She was held in the highest regard and had an immensely bright future ahead. My thoughts and condolences are with Lyra`s partner, family, friends and colleagues in journalism. A precious life has been lost.
“My thoughts are also with the brave PSNI officers who were on the front line last night and brought the young woman to hospital to try and save her life. Unfortunately their efforts were in vain.
“What happened in Londonderry last night is unforgivable and the criminals need removed from our streets, but the PSNI need help from the whole community in doing so. I would appeal to anyone who has information that could help bring the republican terrorists responsible for this terrible crime to justice, to contact the PSNI as soon as possible.
“We cannot allow this society to be dragged back by those who have nothing to offer but murder and mayhem. This was an attack on democracy”
