Northern Ireland businesses need an end to uncertainty - Kennedy

Danny Kennedy, the Ulster Unionist Party`s European Election candidate, has repeated his belief that a sensible Brexit deal that brings an end to uncertainty for business is still within reach if the UK and EU engage meaningfully in further negotiations.

Danny Kennedy said:

“I have travelled the length and breadth of Northern Ireland during this European Election campaign and spoken to many business owners. That continued on Monday morning as I visited South Antrim. Business owners and operators are crying out for an end to uncertainty. They need stability to help create an environment in which businesses can concentrate on doing what they do best.

“That`s why we need a sensible Brexit deal to help create the environment within which businesses can flourish. The political impasse at Stormont combined with the seemingly never ending uncertainty of Brexit negotiations is hitting business confidence and their ability to plan for the future.

“There is still a window of opportunity to reach a sensible deal which doesn`t create new borders in the Irish Sea. A deal is still within reach if some common sense is applied and both our own government and the EU engage meaningfully in further negotiations. It is in nobody`s interests for the UK to leave the EU without a deal. If the opportunity isn`t taken, it could hit the prosperity and wellbeing of the people of the UK and EU for years to come. For manufacturing, the agri-food sector, and our economy as a whole, we need a positive deal to implement Brexit. We need a deal that safeguards trade, supply chains and jobs.”
