Ulster Unionist Justice spokesperson, Doug Beattie MC MLA, has called on the Government and the DUP to ditch the proposed Historical Investigations Unit.
Mr Beattie said:
“Now is time for the Government to ditch the Historical Investigations Unit - a body which would do a monstrous disservice and another injustice to thousands of innocent victims of terrorism.
“The proposals are a charter for republicans to distort and reshape our history and put themselves on a par with the men and women of the RUC GC and our soldiers. Instead, we must never forget that it was the members of our security forces who were a bulwark against the terrorists and stopped this country sliding into civil war during the Troubles.
“It is now time for the DUP to do a U-turn and withdraw their outrageous support for the Historical Investigations Unit which will focus on police and soldiers rather than the terrorists who have Royal Pardons and OTR letters in their back pockets.”
