Ulster Unionist Leader, Steve Aiken OBE MLA, said:
“In this time of national emergency, I strongly welcome the extra £912 million allocated to Northern Ireland by the Government and the fact that it has been able to swiftly step in and provide unprecedented financial assistance in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“As this crisis continues, the Chancellor has indicated that he is willing to do whatever it takes to support our economy and our Nation. Being able to draw on the resources across the United Kingdom demonstrates the strength of the Union. No one could belittle the effort that is being made by our great National Health Service, our health workers and also by the wide body of public servants who are ready and willing to step in at this time of crisis.
“We also owe a debt to workers in all sectors who continue to maintain the food processing industry, protect food supply chains, maintain the country`s transport and communication networks, and manufacture essential products in the battle against Covid-19.
“All the people of Northern Ireland will be grateful for this support.”
