Executive document is a start and sets a direction of travel – Aiken

Ulster Unionist Party Leader, Steve Aiken OBE MLA, said:

“We welcome the publication of the Executive`s Approach to Decision-Making document in relation to dealing with Coronavirus. It`s a start and it sets a direction of travel. Any decisions must be health led and when those decisions are made, we will need to see as much detail published as possible so that the public and business community understand what will be happening at each stage of transition to what will be the ‘new normal’.

“We appreciate that it isn`t easy to get an agreed approach in a five-party Executive, but it is welcome that there now seems to be a degree of cohesion. That cohesion needs to continue as we fight back against Covid-19 and look towards reopening our economy.

“Many businesses continue to fight for survival and will need as much detail and support as possible otherwise they won`t survive. The huge economic support measures coming from the UK Government are very welcome, but we need to ensure that it is getting to businesses and individuals as quickly as possible. Many have yet to receive financial support packages and eagerly await the opening of the recently announced hardship fund.”
