The Ulster Unionist Party’s representative on the Policing Board, Alan Chambers MLA, has condemned the gathering on Bangor’s Ballyholme beach on Friday night which led to disorder in which a police officer was assaulted, and urged people to maintain social distancing.
Alan Chambers MLA said:
“I can understand that many teenagers and young people are feeling frustrated about the current lockdown, but that does not excuse some of the behaviour that took place at Ballyholme beach in Bangor on Friday night, in which a police officer was kicked in the face and four young people arrested.
“Everyone needs to heed the advice of the Health Minister Robin Swann and act responsibly at all times. A great deal of good work has been done up to now with regard to saving lives and stopping the spread of coronavirus. We must remember that now, and continue to take it seriously, maintain social distancing, and stay united against it.”
