Elliott describes Kenny comments re Finucane as unwarranted and unhelpful

Ulster Unionist Party Leader Tom Elliott has described Enda Kenny's latest public support for the Finucane family's call for an independent public inquiry as unwarranted and unhelpful.

Mr Elliott said:

"On Monday night in Washington Enda Kenny took the opportunity to once again express his full support for the Finucane family in their demands for an Inquiry. I have to ask why Enda Kenny chose to single out the Finucane family, while thousands of families in Northern Ireland and beyond suffered losses during the thirty year terror campaign?

This is an issue which both I and Danny Kennedy have already raised with Mr Kenny, particularly given a previous commitment from him to meet us to discuss Kingsmills and other atrocities, a commitment which he has still not fulfilled.

Certain people seem to be seeking to construct a hierarchy of victims in which the Finucane family are at the top, and everyone else below them. This is totally unacceptable, and I am calling once again on Edna Kenny to meet with myself and Danny Kennedy to discuss the litany of murders which took place in border areas, where the terrorists either came from or fled to the Republic."
