GAA move to suspend club games was inevitable - Chambers

The Ulster Unionist Party’s Health Spokesperson, Alan Chambers, has welcomed the GAA’s move to suspend club games at all levels following a number of weekend incidents where social distancing was not observed.

Alan Chambers MLA said:

“This announcement was inevitable given the irresponsible behaviour we have seen over the last few weeks by some members and supporters of the GAA. I`m glad that there are those within the ranks of the organisation`s management who recognise the damage this was doing not only to the health of those directly involved but potentially to the wider community.

“Nobody should be above reproach for their actions and that includes the GAA. Members of many other sporting associations have looked on in dismay at what has happened at some GAA grounds, whilst they have abided by both the spirit and the law of the Coronavirus regulations and guidelines, and been disadvantaged as a result.

“People must take responsibility for their own actions. This virus can affect anyone, no matter what sport you follow, and it is now time that we all work together to obey the rules and regulations and keep people safe.”
