UUP leader condemns Lord Kilclooney`s comments

Ulster Unionist leader, Steve Aiken OBE MLA, has condemned comments made by crossbench peer, Lord Kilclooney, regarding the US Vice President-elect, Kamala Harris.

Mr Aiken said:

“Lord Kilclooney`s comments about US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are reprehensible. There is simply no excuse for it. He should delete what he has said and apologise. This isn`t the first time he has done something like this, but it should be the last.

“Lord Kilclooney is a crossbench peer in the House of Lords. He hasn`t been a member of the party for at least a decade and anything he says, he does so in a personal capacity. We have said it before and we`ll say it again, those views would not be welcome in the Ulster Unionist Party.

“Rather than making insulting remarks, the breaking of another glass ceiling by the election of a US Vice President who is a woman of colour should be strongly welcomed.”
