McCallister condemns attacks on ambulance staff

Ulster Unionist Health Spokesman John McCallister has condemned the attacks which have taken place on ambulance staff.

The South Down MLA said:

“I was shocked to learn that two ambulance crews have been attacked in the last few days, one in Downpatrick on Tuesday night, the other in Poleglass at the weekend.

It is totally unacceptable for Paramedics or any other NHS staff to be subjected to any form of abuse, whether physical or verbal.

Was a society we expect a great deal of our Health Service Staff at all hours of the day and night, and we must all unite behind them to express our support for them and our disgust at those who would abuse them.

I fully support the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service in its assertion that there is no excuse for such behaviour and that those responsible for such assaults should face the full rigour of the law as a result of their actions to deter them and others from such actions.”
