Hussey welcomes the creation of Policing and Community Safety Partnerships in Northern Ireland

Ulster Unionist Policing Board member, Ross Hussey MLA has welcomed news that the Justice Minister has commenced the powers which will see the creation of Policing and Community Safety Partnerships in Northern Ireland.

Ross said:

“News that Policing and Community Safety Partnerships are to be set up in Northern Ireland is extremely welcome.  These Partnerships work to make our communities safer as well as reducing the fear of crime and instilling further public confidence in the PSNI.’

“It is important the PSNI are in touch with local feeling and the PCSPs are an excellent way for them to engage with the community. They also bring with them increased efficiencies given that they are the result of merging together District Policing Partnerships and Community Safety Partnerships. The Ulster Unionist Party fully supported this initiative throughout the legislative passage of the Justice Bill and I welcome their implementation.’

“Measures that will also be introduced by the Department of Justice to recover Legal Aid from defendants who can pay for their own representation will also go towards making our justice system more effective and efficient.’
