The Ulster Unionist Party Leader Steve Aiken OBE MLA has welcomed the inauguration of President Joe Biden and the restoration of effective leadership in the United States.
Steve Aiken said:
“Today many listened to the words of President Joe Biden as he takes on the monumental task of restoring political stability in the United States. He takes over in the midst of a pandemic that his country is struggling to control, he is faced with a heavily polarised society, many of whom still question the democratic process itself, and having to restore America’s international reputation. He does this in an unstable world, with growing and aggressive challenges to US power coming from China and Russia as well as ongoing conflicts in Syria, Afghanistan and elsewhere. Never has an incoming President been more in need of the support of all of the US people and that of those of us elsewhere who wish him well.
“The Ulster Unionist Party welcomes the restoration of effective leadership in the United States. TheUnited Kingdom will remain, as always,a steadfast friendin an uncertain world. We look forward to engaging closely with the new administration, putting the message of those who believe strongly in our Union to an audience that has not previously heard or chosen to listen to our view.”
