All political energy should be focused on recovery, renewal and reconciliation instead of a divisive border poll – Aiken

Ulster Unionist leader, Steve Aiken OBE MLA, has stated that all political energy should be focused on making Northern Ireland a better place to live and work rather than a divisive border poll.

Mr Aiken said:

“This is yet another poll that indicates the majority of people in Northern Ireland want to remain part of the United Kingdom. Despite Brexit, political turmoil and a global pandemic all the people of Northern Ireland are best served by remaining part of the UK. This poll, which was also completed 12 months ago by the same pollsters, shows an increase in those wanting to remain within the United Kingdom and a decrease in those wanting a United Ireland.

“Now all political energy should be focused on making Northern Ireland a better place to live, work and raise your family, instead of a divisive border poll. We need to concentrate on the here and now, fostering better relationships and plotting a way through and out of the Covid-19 pandemic. As Northern Ireland enters its second century, we should be talking about recovery, renewal and reconciliation.”
