ISIS suspect must be arrested if she sets foot in Northern Ireland - Lord Empey

Ulster Unionist Peer Lord Empey has described the tribunal ruling that permits ISIS terror suspect Lisa Smith to enter the UK as ridiculous and called for her to be arrested should she enter Northern Ireland.

Lord Empey said:

“The news that suspected ISIS member Lisa Smith has managed to win an appeal against a Home Office order banning her from entering the United Kingdom, will horrify the vast majority of people in Northern Ireland.

“I first raised this issue in the House of Lords back in March 2019 because I believed clarity was required.

“It is utterly ridiculous to argue that an ISIS terror suspect should be able to cite human rights principles in order to enter the United Kingdom, given the record of that organisation.

“I understand this person is on bail awaiting trial in the Republic next January charged with ISIS membership and funding terrorism. If she sets foot in Northern Ireland - or any other part of the United Kingdom for that matter - she must be immediately arrested so that the UK authorities can question her and establish whether or not she was involved in ISIS terrorist activity that impacted on UK citizens or interests. I shall be raising this matter in the House of Lords at the earliest opportunity and writing to the Chief Constable.”
