Lord Deben’s comments on Climate Emergency should be a wake-up call – Aiken

Following comments from Lord Deben that Stormont instability could hinder emissions targets, Steve Aiken MLA said:

“Lord Deben’s comments today should be a wake-up call to all those who believe that we are running out of time to tackle the Climate Emergency. That he indicates that the three-year hiatus in Stormont has made Northern Ireland’s challenge even more onerous and that without urgent action our nation may miss its zero-net carbon target by 2050, should be the call to take action now.

“That is why the Ulster Unionist Party is calling on the DEARA Minister to fold his bill into the cross-party Private Members Bill being taken through the Assembly.  That way we can start delivering on our commitment to mitigating against the worst aspects of Climate Change rather than just further kicking the can down the road”
