Ulster Unionists welcome award of the George Cross to the NHS

The Ulster Unionist Party has welcomed the decision by Her Majesty the Queen to award the George Cross to health and social care workers in Northern Ireland, as a fitting tribute to those who have been fighting the battle against Covid 19 on our behalf.

Ulster Unionist Party Leader, Doug Beattie MC MLA, said:

“The dedication of health and social care workers across Northern Ireland during the Covid-19 pandemic has been remarkable. The awarding of the George Cross by Her Majesty the Queen is recognition of their selflessness and commitment to their work in the face of adversity. They have helped save lives, comfort grieving families and nursed people back to health during the darkest days of the pandemic

Ulster Unionist Health spokesperson, Alan Chambers MLA, said:

“This is tremendous news and rightful recognition of the work of every single man and woman in our precious National Health Service and Social Care sector. Their commitment to duty during the darkest days of the pandemic was unquestionable. It is their continued work in helping deliver the hugely successful vaccination programme which will eventually see us through.

“My party colleague, the Health Minister Robin Swann MLA, will be rightly proud that this honour has been bestowed by Her Majesty the Queen on all the staff under his leadership, who have without fail gone far beyond the call of duty to nurse, restore to health and protect all of our citizens.”
