Beattie meets Taoiseach in Dublin

Following a meeting with the Taoiseach Micheál Martin in Dublin, Ulster Unionist Party Leader Doug Beattie MC MLA said:

“I said when I became Leader of the party that Unionism needs to engage more, not less.  That’s what today’s visit was all about.

“We had a conversation on the problems that are arising as a result of the Northern Ireland Protocol and I appealed to the Taoiseach to create space to allow common sense solutions to these problems to be found.  On legacy we reiterated that we do not feel the Irish Government have done enough to fulfil their obligations.

“We will continue to have conversations to make Unionism’s case both within Northern Ireland and further afield.  If we want to be heard and understood, then we must continue to engage.”
