Ulster Unionists honoured to host Wounded Police & Families Association at Stormont

The occasion was to launch a brochure produced by the Association, “Shared Memories” in which a number of former officers recounted their experiences and consequences of their service in this, the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Ulster Constabulary.

The brochure has a foreword from Sir Ronnie Flannigan and the launch was attended by Assistant Chief Constable Drew Harris.

West Tyrone MLA Ross Hussey, himself a former RUC Reservist said:

“Today the Ulster Unionist Assembly Group were honoured to host the Wounded Police Families & Families Association at Parliament Buildings Stormont.

The Ulster Unionist Party salutes the bravery shown by the RUC in defence of freedom and we also pay tribute to the bravery of the PSNI who continue the fight against terrorism in this Province.

The Wounded Police & Families Association does a great deal of vital work with former Police officers and their families and they are to be commended for the hard work which has gone into the production of this brochure.”

Following the Stormont event the Association visited the RUC George Cross Memorial Garden at Police Headquarters.

The Honorary Secretary of the Association, Hazel McCready said

“Our thoughts will be towards the men and women, our colleagues, who paid the supreme sacrifice, and with their families. Also we will remember our injured colleagues who after struggling with life after injury are no longer with us.”
