McCallister demands lessons be learned following Pseudomonas Inquiry

Ulster Unionist Health Spokesperson John McCallister MLA has demanded that lessons be learned following the Inquiry into the Pseudomonas outbreak which claimed the lives of four babies in local hospitals.

The South Down MLA said:

“This debate highlighted some major failings within the operating procedures of the Department. In particular how the system seemed to fall apart with the onset of the Christmas holidays, and the failure to alert other hospitals to the death of a baby in Altnagelvin, when such action might have highlighted the potential dangers to other hospitals and helped prevent further tragedies.

These lessons must be learned. What we must never forget in all of this is that all the inquiries in the world will not bring back the babies who died. Families are still grieving for their loss and our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
