Nesbitt comments on latest revelations re role of Cardinal Brady in investigation into activities of Brendan Smyth

Ulster Unionist Leader Mike Nesbitt has commented on the latest revelations regarding the role of Cardinal Brady in the Catholic Church’s investigations into the activities of Brendan Smyth, following Tuesday night’s BBC tv programme.

Mr Nesbitt said:

“No-one who saw last night’s programme could fail to be moved by the tales of suffering that were recounted by the victims of abuse.

I can recall covering the Brendan Smyth story as a journalist back in the mid 1990s and I am disturbed and disappointed that this saga has dragged on for so long without resolution.

With regard to Cardinal Brady’s own position, from his previous statements he has set the bar, and it really is a matter for his own conscience.”
