Ulster Unionist Justice spokesman Tom Elliott has responded to the Justice Minister’s announcement that two pilot projects relating to new search technologies within prisons are to be introduced.
Mr Elliott said:
“Aside from the obvious cost implications which will no doubt be considerable, it is absolutely essential that any changes made to search procedures in Northern Ireland’s prisons are fully tried and tested and that they are at least as effective as current arrangements.
Security is absolutely paramount and nothing must be done which would compromise it.”
