Ulster Unionists hit out at BMI baby decision to pull out of Belfast City airport

East Belfast MLA Michael Copeland  and Lord Empey have hit out at the decision of BMI Baby to Bmibaby will cease to operate all flights to and from from Belfast from 11 June.

Michael Copeland said:

“In addition to the potential job losses, this decision will inconvenience the travel plans of thousands of people. To announce the closure of  routes with just over five weeks notice is simply not acceptable.

Its all very well for BMI to say this will not affect the mainline BMI service from Belfast City to London Heathrow but people will understandably be very concerned about its future too.”

This point was also highlighted by Lord Empey who said:

“This underscores what I have been saying for some time now namely that we must have a legislative certainty with regard to the Belfast City to London Heathrow air route. My Airports (Amendment) Bill is designed to achieve just that and is the only way we can be certain the link to Heathrow will be preserved in the long term.”
