Overend condemns elaborate hoax at Teebane Crossroads.

Ulster Unionist MLA for Mid-Ulster, Sandra Overend, has condemned those responsible for today's security alert on the Drum Road, Cookstown, close to the Teebane crossroads.

 Mrs Overend said,

“I was disgusted at the news of a security alert close to the Teebane crossroads this morning.  First of all, there is no place in society for this type of action and everyone across Northern Ireland should work to ensure that this never becomes acceptable. Those responsible must be stopped, and the PSNI and our security forces should be given all the resources they require to thwart them.

Secondly, twenty years on from the terrible atrocity in the same area, at Teebane, which took the lives of eight innocent men, the fact that there are those who still want to raise tensions and cause hurt and fear is a sad reflection on those who carried out this act. To want to stir up those awful memories of twenty years ago is just a cowardly act of self-interest and offers nothing to anyone in our community.

I congratulate the PSNI for safely dealing with the incident and appeal to anyone who might have any information to bring it to the attention of the Police Service of Northern Ireland as soon as possible.”
