Hussey condemns Omagh Police Station alert

West Tyrone Ulster Unionist MLA Ross Hussey has condemned those responsible for a hoax bomb alert at Omagh Police station on Sunday night.

Mr Hussey, who represents his Party on the Policing Board, said:

“I completely and unreservedly condemn those responsible for the alert which took place in Omagh last night and which caused the temporary closure of the Police Station and the evacuation of a number of homes in the area.

Coming so soon after the hoax near Teebane roundabout outside Cookstown earlier in the day, it is reasonable to suppose that the two incidents are linked.

The people of Omagh, like the rest of Northern Ireland, have suffered more than enough in the past and have no desire to return there. They utterly reject anyone who would seek to use violence or the threat of violence and simply want to live their lives and bring up their families in peace.

It is imperative that the entire community unites in condemnation of these incidents and provides every assistance to the Police so that those who want to create division and engage in terrorist acts are isolated, arrested, brought before the courts and put away where they cannot inflict themselves and their poisonous ideology of violence on the rest of society.”
