Failure to provide Primary 7 pupils with an alternative to the 11-Plus “unacceptable” - Kinahan

Ulster Unionist Vice-Chair of the Education Committee, Danny Kinahan MLA has said that P7 pupils receiving confirmation of which post-primary school they will transfer to must be the last to have to sit unregulated transfer tests.

Danny said

“Today we have a group of children learning whether they have been successful in gaining a place in the school of their choice after having sat several un-regulated tests to try and secure that place.’

“The Ulster Unionist Party has repeatedly called for a single transfer test to be put in place for two years to allow time for an agreed assessment process to replace the 11-plus.  The fact Primary 7 pupils have no alternative but to sit un-regulated tests year on year, many of which are of a conflicting nature, is shameful.’

“It is totally unacceptable that there is still uncertainty for the next group of children moving into Primary 7 as to what the future of the transfer procedure in Northern Ireland is.   The current situation for our children is simply intolerable and cannot be allowed to continue.’
