Swann congratulates local rowers on Olympic selection

Ulster Unionist Sports spokesperson Robin Swann has congratulated the three Northern Ireland rowers who have been selected to represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland in the London 2012 Olympics.

The North Antrim MLA said:

“It is great news that three Northern Ireland rowers have been selected to represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland at the Olympics this summer.

Coleraine’s Bann Rowing Club will be particularly proud. Earlier this week it played host to the Olympic flame as it toured Northern Ireland and today it has learned that three former members will compete in the Olympics. Alan Campbell will race the single scull, and the Chambers brothers Richard and Peter, have made the lightweight men’s four.

This is just reward for what is literally a lifetimes’ dedication to sport and the willingness to make great personal sacrifices to achieve and maintain absolutely peak levels of fitness.

They are wonderful role models for our young people and the whole of Northern Ireland will be cheering them on later this summer.”
