Cree saddened at Bangor Parish Church fire damage

North Down Ulster Unionist MLA Leslie Cree has expressed his sadness at the damage caused to Bangor Parish Church in Hamilton Road in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Mr Cree said:

“Like everyone else in Bangor, I was very sad to learn of the fire which broke out in Bangor Parish Church in the early hours of this (Thursday) morning.  The Church is a real local landmark, situated as it is right in the centre of the town on Hamilton Road and is a much loved building.

It is just a short distance from my Office and I was able to see for myself some of the damage caused and also the concern of local people and parishioners who had turned up at the Church upon hearing the news.

Whilst it is extremely sad to see the extent of the damage, I have no doubt that the Church will be restored to its former glory.

I would like to commend the prompt actions of the Police officers who noticed the fire and the bravery shown by the members of the Fire Brigade who quickly brought the blaze under control and minimised the damage.”
